REIMAGINING PUNE’S STREETS
Pune’s urban realm has become increasingly chaotic, with the city’s streets prioritising traffic movement over the needs of its people. This intervention across 15 streets in the eastern part of Pune aims to reclaim the streets as public spaces, shifting the focus from vehicles to pedestrians, cyclists, and community life. By integrating greenery, improving walkability, enhancing pedestrian safety, and creating more comfortable streetscapes, the project seeks to restore the relationship between people and their urban environment. The idea is to transform streets from mere corridors of movement into vibrant public spaces that encourage social interaction, support local activities, and improve the overall microclimate. Through a people-centric approach, the intervention envisions a more connected, inclusive, and liveable Pune, where the streets belong not just to the city’s traffic, but to its people.
